Character.AI has introduced an option called Character Voices which enables users to listen to voices of characters during one-on-one conversations. The company claims it is because of this capability of creating their own sounds that there are over a million voices in the library of the app.
In reality, several Reddit users have complained of their characters changing personality around the same time the firm released its new calling feature.

To clarify such claims, the firm reportedly told 404 Media that although a massive features overhaul did not happen by the firm, possibly some weird behavioral traits had been manifested by some characters because those users were a test group.
It appears Google has a dedicated platform to build custom chatbots. The motivation is from the wrestling with Meta and Character.AI.
